ABOUT THE ARTIST and the PROGRAMS

Purly Gates is a uniquely entertaining, creative singer and multi-instrumentalist
who has been performing nationally for folks of all ages for more than three decades.
She accompanies her “maple syrup sweet” voice mainly with 6-string acoustic guitar,
but also plays 5-string banjo, ukelele, harmonica and accordion - only not all at once.

Purly’s repertoire is diverse, filled with swing tunes from the 30’s and 40’s,
humorous folk and traditional songs, originals, some country and bluegrass numbers.
She also has been known to recite Cowboy Poetry, and uses storytelling or anecdotes to
introduce songs that will tickle the toughest funny bone. Folks enjoy singing along on
familiar tunes, and are easily drawn in to participate on the choruses of ones they’ve
never heard before. It's great entertainment!!

Performances can be acoustic or supplemented with a small PA system which Purly brings
(depending on audience size); they can also be informal, such as “strolling minstrel”
 style throughout a large area.
